Assignment 2 Progress

Even if I said that my previous post was the last, I came back to write about Assignment 2 and its progress. Ever since I came back home due to the Coronavirus, I had a lot of time to sit down and analyze what I am going to do for my second Assignment. In my previous post, I was really confused and unorganized because I wasn't sure about what we were asked to do. Now, I have a plan and I'm ready to execute it.

The Project

Before I came up with my final extended task (here), I started writing a twine story based on the classic fairytale by the Brothers Grimm, Hansel and Gretel. Given that we had to make it bigger than the first twine story we did, I created a whole scenario with more than ten endings. And then I remembered when Charlie told us that it is really easy to lose control over the options you create but it was too late and I honestly loved what I had created. Based on that, the story was so long that it would take me ages to explain in a blog post but it would be nice to write a reflective essay on it, so I changed my extended task and made the posters, which I really enjoyed, and I kept the Hansel and Gretel interactive story for the second Assignment.

Hansel & Gretel Interactive Story:

As you can see, my story is really extended and it has many layers to it. I'm really happy with where this story stands and how complete it is. However, I'm not going to stop here.

Next Step

Having the story finished really helps me plan the next steps. I want to try and blend all the things that we did in Digital Practice together. Since we have plenty of time because of the isolation, I will try to animate the story and narrate it. After that, I want to try using Eko, putting all the animated clips in order according to the plan above, and make it an interacting non-linear story. If I manage to do that, then I have a few more things that I want to do.

The first thing is, create a poster (of course), in order to promote the story. I absolutely love digital design and making one for this story is essential, since not only it is a written non-linear story but also an actual short film.

The second thing that I'm planning on doing is, creating a website for the story so that readers can have all the content on one page. I want to include the interactive film but also the interactive story from twine, the poster and additional content so that I can support the story even more.

One thing that I'm still considering is creating an Instagram page so that I can promote my website and the story itself. That is what I believe will help me determine exactly what my audience is and how I can engage more with them, in order to produce more suitable content. Posting pictures with relatable hashtags and tagging different accounts will definitely bring users on the page. Thus, start asking questions under the posts in order to get familiar with my audience and learn what they want to see.

Also, I want to use one of Instagram's tools: the Bussiness Profile. This tool helps many businesses tailor their content for their followers and at the same time see their demographics. As I mentioned in my Extended Task, demographics are really important and they are the key to creating effective advertisements for the audience.

The final part is writing my essay for this project which, for some reason, I believe will be the easiest pat to do, if I manage to execute all of the above.

Mind Map for Assignment 2

Conclusion

Altogether, I feel like I have a solid and good plan for my final assignment. It will take me some time to achieve all these but I'm motivated and really excited to try them. Thus, we have access to all these tools and knowledge so why not make using of everything? The thing that will be the hardest for me, I believe, is Instagram. Instagram is a great idea and I really want to experiment with that but it needs a lot of careful planning and attention so I'm going to start soon and get as many people on my page as possible. Hopefully, when I write my final essay for this project, I'm going to have positive things to say for this experience.

Thank you for reading my post!
